I spent how much a month on poison??

I just calculated that I used to spend at LEAST $168 a month on POISON.



Poison = Pepsi.

~ Dramatic I know....

I'm not a raw vegan. I am not PERFECT with what I eat. But I know one thing, I was addicted to both Pepsi & Reese's PB Cups.

Like many working moms, I usually worked 40 hours a week, plus my full-time job of being a mom. I got up early & went to bed late... every. single. day. but Sunday.

So.... the Vending Machine became my best friend when I needed a pick-me-up.

I was the kid that came to school with a Pepsi in my lunch box... so I was doomed from the start ;) Just kidding. I share that because I had a LIFELONG addiction to Soda... it was bad.

I just calculated, and I used to drink at LEAST 2-3 Pepsi's a day - which means I was spending $42 a week - which is $168 a month... on gnarly chemicals.

CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT!!?!?!

Like every other human on Earth, I was skeptical about Shakeology at first because of the cost & because I THOUGHT it was a protein drink. I didn't know that it was so much more than that & I didn't know what I was missing out on.

A calorie is a calorie, right?? Wrong!


When I first started looking to lose weight, I used to think “A calorie’s a calorie. Whether you eat 1500 calories of Twinkies or 1500 calories of vegetables, it all comes down to the same amount.”
In the beginning, I never paid attention to where my calories came from anyhow. I just focused on the calorie load as a whole. I ended up choosing 100-Calorie Packs and nonfat yogurt over an apple and almonds because, calorically, it was lower. I could eat more this way… and oh, I did.I was hungry allllll the time. I felt faint often and had trouble concentrating. My diet consisted of mostly processed carbs, sugars, and very very little fat. When I hit plateaus, I just figured my willpower was failing me. I just had to eat less. It was that simple.

What I didn’t know was that the sugars (both real and artificial) were fueling my cravings and leaving me crashing hard, which made it incredibly tough not to overeat. The same thing happens with processed flours and additives.

Now, after 1.5 years of coaching others with their own nutrition, I realize that not every calorie is equal. I focus more on nutrition now by finding each person’s personal macronutrient ratio sweet spot. I know that protein and fat will keep hunger at bay longer, that for most people who aren’t marathon runners, high carb diets just won’t do the trick for fat-loss goals.

The most important priority to me with ALL my challengers however, is that they start replacing the chemical-laden, processed-to-smithereens junk with REAL, WHOLE FOOD.

Here’s the truth: we have a hard time giving up the processed crap because, well, we’ve been eating it all our lives. We’re used to those tastes, so going cold turkey off of all the junk is really, really tough.

What would you say if I told you there’s another way?

Many of those chemically-laden, processed-to-smithereens foods that you love can be made healthy!
It may not taste exactly the same when you substitute bleached flours for cauli-“flour” or sugar for bananas, but it will at least get you through some of those tougher cravings.
With these recipes, you won’t be crashing from sugar overload, nor will you be jacking up your insulin levels. Bottom line: you’ll stay leaner and cleaner while also treating yourself with these delightfully delicious substitutes. No guilt necessary. ;)

Success Story: Alecia

Probably the most rewarding part of what I do is seeing those smiles on the faces of my challengers in their "After" pictures. Alecia is a friend from high school. We were in cheerleading together for years and both pursued a degree in education. Life happened to both of us. We got comfortable and she was one of my very first transformation stories as a coach. I am so proud of her tenacity, and dedication!! She is also now an amazing coach on my team. Love having her by my side to share this journey! Here's her story:
 
 
"I decided to go back and dig out my very first before picture from my start of Focus T25 in January 2014. I remember joining my first challenge group completely blind, having no idea what I was doing, had never done a home fitness program before the whole way through, and I had never even heard of Shakeology or clean eating! But I was definitely at the breaking point where I had to do something an...d I had to do it now! I was absolutely miserable; I felt horrible all the time, I constantly had to buy new (bigger) clothes to replace the ones I was outgrowing, and I had a horrible attitude about everything.
Though I had a gym membership, living so far away from it wasn’t working for me to get there consistently. I knew myself; I knew I would stick with it for a week or two at most and then quit! So I figured this was a better bet because I also didn’t have the confidence to work out in front of other people. I was afraid I would be judged for being so overweight, when in high school I had been so very thin. We didn't have a designated area for workout space but I made room in our living room, pushing the coffee table to the side.
Every morning at 4:30 I would drag myself out of bed and press play! It was ugly. I was out of shape, I cried, and I wanted to quit! But the one thing I kept saying is this, "I wanted to change more than I wanted to stay the same." My husband and I want to be parents some day, and I needed to make this change to a) make getting pregnant a little easier, b) have a healthier pregnancy once we do conceive, and c) lead the kind of healthy life we want for our kids some day. I don’t want them to grow up seeing mommy crying when she looks into a mirror. I don’t want them to have the same kind of negative feelings about themselves that I did. I want them to be healthy, and be able to run around and play like kids should do.
So every day I pushed play, and I had faith in the process! I knew that if I followed the workout calendar and the nutrition guide I would get results. It was tested and proven! For me going to the gym meant wandering around aimlessly doing random machines hoping what I was doing would produce results. Then I would come home and eat back all my burned off calories because I had “earned it”! I had no idea how nutrition played into my results.
So 60 days later, 20 lbs gone, faith in the process, a genuine love for challenge groups and coaching I became a believer! I was skeptical that a home fitness program would work but honestly when you make fitness, nutrition, and accountability the way that Beachbody does it, the only way you won't succeed is if you don't follow the plan!!!!!
I am a believer! The cool part is that I get to inspire hope and change in others now too!"

Avocado Egg White Salad

This is one of my go too fav lunches!! Simple and delicious. You can eat it plain or its delicious on a Flat Out wrap too!



Ingredients:

  • 4 large hard-boiled eggs, chopped
  • 4 hard boiled egg whites, chopped (discard the rest)
  • 1 medium hass avocado, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 1 tbsp light mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp fat free plain yogurt
  • 1/2 tablespoon finely chopped chives
  • 2 teaspoons red wine vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp Kosher salt
  • pinch freshly ground pepper

Directions:

Combine the egg yolks with the avocado, light mayo, yogurt, chives, vinegar, salt and pepper. Mash with a fork. Combine with egg whites and adjust salt as needed.
